Gavin makes First Team All-State 3A

Lake Mary Prep prolific senior Michael Gavin and Orlando Christian Prep junior Eric Butler are first-team Class 3A all-state boys basketball players as picked by Source Hoops and the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches. Gavin was voted Florida Dairy Farmers 3A Player of the Year after averaging 27.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. He scored 60 points in a 100-75 victory over Forest Lake in a January stretch in which he averaged 49.7 points over three games.

Lake Mary Prep coach Marty Priest said Gavin was on a recruiting visit to NCAA Division II University of Tampa on Tuesday. He also has interest from Southeastern University of Lakeland and Ocala’s two-year College of Central Florida.

The 2018-19 all-state teams are compiled by Source Hoops based on in-person evaluations, a review of all-area teams selected by media from around the state, and recognition from the FABC. This years’ Class 3A team as announced by the Orlando Sentinel is:

4/156/19 – After Monday’s District meet at Red Bug Park, LMP boys tennis will be moving on to regionals! Haru and Aron won line 1 doubles, taking this year’s title as District Champs and securing them a spot in the State Tournament May 1st! Solid performances from the rest of the boys team contributed to LMP’s overall finish as District Runner-up and a chance to move on to regionals next week at Windermere Prep! Go Griffins!


4/13/19 – Congratulations Varsity Track on raising their own bar at District Championships with many personal bests, and a big congrats to Tyler Cashe who finished 1st in the 100m, 200m and Jazmine Marshall with a 3rd in 100m qualifying them both for the Regional Championships!


4/12/19 – Katie Rudow’s 14 three’s against CFCA this past 2018 season were not only an LMP record, but also 3 shots shy of the national record (17 in a game), earning her a spot in the NFHS record books ! She went 14 for 26 that game, setting a new school record and putting her on the map nationwide. Congrats Katie! Go Griffins!


4/8/19 – In a milestone event this past weekend, Sierra Brooks finished 10th among some of the world’s best amateur women golfers at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur Tournament . The Lake Mary native and LMP alum made history not only in her personal achievements this weekend, but also in helping pave the way for women in golf. As a standout at the University of Florida, Sierra Brooks had already made history in becoming the first women’s player to win two tournaments in her first three starts as a Gator. An All-SEC second-team honoree as a sophomore, the Lake Mary, Fla. native advanced to the third round of match play in last summer’s U.S. Women’s Amateur and finished runner-up at the 2015 U.S. Women’s Amateur.
